Few days ago I met with Arief Widhiyasa, my senior in Informatics Engineering ITB and CEO in Agate. Agate is one of the biggest game development companies in Indonesia, established in 2009 and currently employs 46 employees. I was very excited since I had planned to meet him long before. There are only two simple questions in my mind: what is the most important things for company and what is the most important things for leader.
We met at Resep Moyang restaurant in Jalan Cikutra, Bandung, comfortable restaurant with reasonable price, but too few waiters IMHO. After we put our food orders, we started our conversation. My two questions ended with three fundamental questions from him: why you start your company? why you take responsibility as a leader? what is your personal dream?
As an entrepreneur, we should do business according to our personal dreams, what we want mostly to contribute to world. When we start our business with partners, the business should be align with each partner personal dreams. When we recruit people, he/she should have a dream similar with company’s dreams.
These three questions keep spinning in my head, and I look for further information through Internet and books. I read http://www.startwithwhy.com as recommended by Arief. I read Paul Cuelho’s The Alchemist and re-read Your Job is Not Your Career. I won’t give up until I find the answers!
